Just a few steps off campus, Hoyas have the opportunity to experience the essence of France by biting into the sinfully delectable crêpes created in the intimate setting of Snap. Located on Thomas Jefferson Street just off M Street, you can find the eye-drawing lime green town house that offers both entrée and dessert crêpes along with more than tempting bubble tea. As soon as you open the front door, you are welcomed by the tantalizing aromas that make your mouth water. The sensory overload does not end there, however: The gastronomic experience far outweighs the enticingly full scents wafting from the interior of the tiny restaurant.
Snap offers various flavorings to the basic crêpe, transforming a slim pancake into a spicy thai tuna delight or even a guacamole chicken treat. A personal favorite is the asiago and goat cheese crêpe, which literally melts in your mouth. With the perfect blend of cheeses served at just the right temperature, it is impossible to dislike what Snap whips up right in front of you.
Better yet, your dining experience need not stop here! Taking you from a wholesome dinner to a sweet indulgence, Snap offers numerous dessert crêpes that are impossible to resist. Being a fan of the hazelnut taste of Nutella, I created my own dessert, combining strawberries and bananas smeared with the hazelnut-chocolate spread. A perfect combination of fruit and chocolate, the tasty treat left me wanting 10 more. For those not too keen about Nutella, there are dozens of options from peanut butter tastes to a mint chocolate chip creation. The dulce de leche creation is equally as mouthwatering. They have tons of other spreads as well, which all can be combined with a variety of fruits.
Still unwilling to end my time enjoying the culinary delights of Snap, I opted to buy a bubble tea for “the ride home.” Made from sweetened black milk tea, you can flavor it with different syrups and powders. The mango bubble tea is divine along with all the options from the cappuccino tea to passion fruit. The lychee tea is especially delicious, and I was happy to find that the tapioca was perfectly chewy — never too hard or crumbly.
In addition to Snap’s salivating dishes, the general ambiance truly adds to the experience. With al dente seating, on a nice temperate day not only can you enjoy the food, but you can also sit comfortably in the picket-fenced setting of the restaurant’s backyard. Separated from the hustle and bustle of the Georgetown streets, you can dine peacefully in the serene environment, which also provides a preferable study location to the lackluster cubicles at Lauinger Library.
The best feature, especially for college students, is the moderate prices of these delectable delights. The most expensive entrée crêpe is only seven dollars and the dessert crêpes only four. The bubble tea is $3, making it cheaper than your average latté at coffee shops. At about the same cost as Wisey’s, you can enjoy an original French recipe and sit in the tranquil outdoor setting.
If you are looking for a chance to enjoy some classic French cuisine, enjoy some outdoor reading time or just eat some classy food on a budget, look no further than this brightly painted oasis smack dab in the middle of bustling Georgetown. With flavorful crêpe creations made right in front of your eyes, quick service and a comfortable outdoor setting just off M Street, Snap offers the perfect dining experience for everyone.
