With the closing of Philly Pizza looming in the near future, who will fill the late-night-snack void? What is not greasy, ranch-filled, nor so sketchy that you would never eat there during daylight hours? The answer: Crêpe Amour. The delicious crêpes are the antithesis of Philly P’s, and in my opinion, make a better option.

Crêpe Amour opened its doors 12 days ago, and owner Sri Suku says that business has been good so far. His team has been developing their concept for over a year and a half, aiming for perfection of a brand name that they hope to expand upon. Their goal is to do what Georgetown Cupcake has done with cupcakes to crêpes. Suku hopes that the logo, like Georgetown Cupcake’s pink, black and white swirl, will begin to emblematize the quality of their brand and will begin to be universally recognized throughout Georgetown, Washington D.C., and beyond.

The idea is a simple one. There are 11 sweet and 11 savory options. The menu is neither extremely extensive, nor is it too complex. It all goes back to the good ’ole quality over quantity debate. Sometimes the best things in the world can be the simplest. What can be better than a Nutella crêpe? Or maybe Nutella and banana? For all of you peanut butter lovers, the Nutty Buddy is calling your name (filled with Nutella, loads of peanut butter and topped with Reese’s crumbles). The consistency of the crêpes is incredible, and when you combine the outstanding consistency with the fact that the ingredients are of the highest quality and cut the moment you order, you really cannot go wrong. In terms of savory options, the head chef, Surag, has expertly and thoughtfully devised each crêpe to suit all desires. The Da Vinci is becoming the fastest moving savory item, and includes shredded chicken, basil pesto, tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. All crêpes can be made into vegetarian options as well.

Attention to quality not only applies to their crêpes, but also to their coffee. Espresso bars are becoming a new fad, emphasizing the importance of coffee and espresso quality. Leopold’s Kafe, which serves the famous Austrian Julius Meinl coffee, and Puro Café, which has joined forces with Nespresso, are both local examples of cafés that look to provide the highest standard of coffee. Joining in their endeavor is Crêpe Amour, who has just teamed up with renowned Lavazza to provide high quality coffee. Lavazza comes from Italy, and for them, “quality is not ‘controlled’ but ‘developed’ through a strict system of procedures overseeing the selection of the beans, proper roasting, assembling the right blends and putting [their] products into quality packaging material meant to last.”

Complementing the crêpes will be another new concept: the Georgetown Wing Co. (located directly upstairs). There will be a sliding glass door separating the two distinct but united entities. Suku describes the goal of the Wing Company as the desire to be “a great hangout.” They are not looking to butt heads with Rhino next door, but rather act as an alternative to the bar scene. They will not be serving hard alcohol, but will instead be selling reasonably priced beer and wine. There will be six types of beer on tap and a variety of other bottled beer. The upstairs cuisine will consist of rotisserie chicken, fries, oven baked wings and, of course, fried wings. It looks to become a great game-day spot, as there are five HD TVs, couches and comfort food.

Suku knows that Georgetown students will make up a huge part of his client base, so he is looking into putting in a Go Card system, registering with Campusfood.com and ultimately having a delivery service available. Other ideas in the future will be to have a special crêpe of the day, and also for a wildcard crêpe of the week. The wildcard will consist of a drawing from a jar filled with customer suggestions. If the head chef deems it feasible, that suggestion will be featured for a week.

In the next two to three weeks, Crêpe Amour will have a grand opening and give away free crêpes and coffee all day. Keep your eyes peeled for the exact date, available on Facebook and Twitter. Their Web site will also be up and functional in about a week. If you are in the mood for a breakfast crêpe, a lunch or dinner crêpe, or a little snack, check out this new concept on M Street, keeping in mind that if you are out late and looking for a snack — go find the amour that is packed into these crêpes.
